GRANT IMPLEMENTATION (ON-GOING):

In conjunction with the KRADD we conducted public meetings within all eight counties of the district, established a Brownfields Advisory Committee (BAC), conducted “visioning sessions” at public meetings, developed a Brownfield inventory, ranked and prioritized sites, conducted Phase I and Phase II ESAs, and Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (ABCAs). The 2015 grant was successfully closed having completed 21 site assessments. We continue to assist KRADD in implementing their current USEPA grant. The current grant has focused on the redevelopment of Hazard, Kentucky and the flood impacted town of Beattyville, Kentucky. We completed a Brownfields inventory in downtown Hazard and 9 Phase I and II assessments on properties that have been recently purchased by the City of Hazard and are being purchased by private entities. This includes former Grand Hotel that burned down a decade ago and is now owned by the City of Hazard. Beattyville was completely flooded in March of 2021 and the EPA has allowed KRADD to assist the city in evaluating its current City Hall that was contaminated with gasoline during the flood.
